Stay on Aranmula airport work for two weeks

for the construction of KGS airport
The Kerala High Court on Monday stayed for two weeks the construction works of the Chennai-based KGS group-promoted Aranmula Airport project.
Justice N.K. Balakrishnan issued the order on a petition filed by the Aranmula Heritage Action Council, represented by Kummanam Rajeshakaran. He said the construction of the airport would adversely affect ecology of the area and there was no need for an airport at Aranmula.
The airport was being constructed on filled paddy fields. He pointed out that the High Court had earlier stayed the Taluk Land Board’s order declaring the land acquired for the proposed project as excess land under the Land Reform Act.
The interim order came on a petition filed by KGS Aranmula International Airport Ltd challenging the order of the board.
The action council contended that the company might go ahead with the construction works on the strength of the interim order.
